Why is Dolle's logo green?
There are several "levels" to answer this question. First, back in 1959, our grandfather, Rudolph Dolle, sold the Dolle's in Rehoboth to his business partner. The Dolle's of Rehoboth is famous for its bright red sign which is prominent in almost all pictures regarding Rehoboth Beach. Dolle's of Ocean City, however, is still owned and operated by the Dolle family, on the very same piece of land that our great-grandfather and grandfather conducted business. The green color is just one thing that sets us apart from the very familiar red "Dolle's" sign of Rehoboth.
The second, most proudly stated reason for the switch to green is our concern for the environment and of conducting business locally. Daily, we give it our best efforts to "go green." We buy local whenever possible… our taffy boxes and popcorn bags are manufactured locally, the bulk of our ingredients are manufactured in Pennsylvania. We offer reduced pricing for customers that bring their popcorn tubs back for refills (and enjoy a steep discount), and our chocolate boxes are made of recycled materials. We encourage customers to reuse our packaging—taffy boxes make great pen/pencil holders, sewing boxes, etc. Also, they are collectors' items… see eBay for antique taffy boxes. Dolle's recycles whenever possible, reuses most of the time, and supports local all of the time.
How many locations does Dolle's have?
Currently, we have 3 stores. The original "Candystand," Dolle's Flagship, is located on the Boardwalk at Wicomico Street, where all of our candies are manufactured. Our Dolle's Express is on 120th Street, where you can buy all of Dolle's most popular confections, seasonal favorites, and gift items. Our newest location is our "Candy Experience" Dolle's at 67th Street, where you can watch us make caramel popcorn, old fashioned taffy, caramel apples, candied nuts, cotton candy, and more! We are also fortunate to include Pony Tails of Chincoteague, Virginia to our wonderful family of business. Oh, and we also wholesale our candies to the trade under the name of "A&A Candy Company."
What makes Dolle's different?
#1 We are family owned and OPERATED… we work our business and have dedicated our lives to serving the best candy to Ocean City visitors, and those who want to be, via our online store. #2 We eat our candy. Everyday. No exceptions. We give the candy that we make to our own children. If it's good enough, wholesome enough, and quality enough to meet the discriminating tastes of the great great grandchildren of Rudolph Dolle Sr., it's awesome candy!
#3 With the exception of gummies, licorice, and a handful of seasonal items (ask, we'll tell ya) we make everything on the corner of Wicomico Street and the Boards. If we have to order candy for sale, it is always from the USA or imported from Europe. Not enough space, you say, for all of that manufacturing? Well, there's actually no place for storage. Hence, what you buy in our shop is made within days, even hours, of your purchase.
#4 FAMILY. Yes, some of us are blood related, but most of us working at Dolle's are related by the business alone. When you have such a tight bond, it reflects in our product and our service. If something is amiss, we want to know about it and we stand behind our product and service.

Why can't I get a plastic bag with my popcorn?
Two reasons. First, refer to question #1. The bags aren't necessary… this is one way to cut down on plastics in our resort town, The dolphins, seagulls, and other critters that call this area home thank you for your understanding. The second reason is that the paper popcorn bags, introduced in the spring of 2012, are lined with a thin plastic film to prolong freshness.
What's up with your pricing?
We would love to make everyone on planet Earth happy by giving everyone free candy, but no can do. As with all food products, prices have gone up significantly, especially nuts. We believe that our prices are fair… a lot of work goes into every bite of our candy. Please remember that when you buy from Dolle's, and other small businesses, you are supporting local families and communities. DOLLE'S PRODUCT INFORMATION
How should I store my delicious Dolle's candy?
Simply put, if you're comfortable, your candy is comfortable. Please don't freeze or refrigerate any of our products. Everything purchased at Dolle's just requires an environment between 65 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Your candy won't suntan, so keep it out of direct sunlight. All of our candies love being airtight--especially popcorn, which can become stale within minutes of manufacturing if left in high humidity. Like previously mentioned, all of our candies are made fresh daily, so abide by the following suggested timelines (if products are kept airtight and at proper temperatures). Please keep in mind that no preservatives are used in our products!

Why does your taffy feel hard?
Our salt water taffy is made every day with the exception of Sundays. We cook each batch according to the temperature of the day. If it's very cold outside, the candy is cooked at a lower temperature, which produces a softer candy. The opposite holds true when the temperature is above 70 degrees Fahrenheit. We cook the taffy to a higher degree, producing a slightly firmer piece of candy. This ensures that it doesn't turn into a soupy mess if it's kept warmer than 70 degrees. If our taffy feels hard, it is most likely because it is cold; try holding the taffy snugly in the palm of your hand for a few moments, the warmth should soften it right up! The way to test to see if any taffy is fresh is to do the "pull test." If you can pull a piece of taffy and it produces "ribbons" or "strings," it's fresh. If the taffy snaps or breaks apart without a pull (much like the consistency of over-chewed gum) throw it out, it's old! We guarantee our taffy won't fail the "pull test" if you purchase it at Dolle's.
Can I enjoy your candy if I have a food allergy?
Unfortunately, Dolle's processes peanuts, tree nuts, coconut, dairy, eggs, wheat, and soy products on all of its machinery. If you are sensitive in any way shape or form to these allergens, please do not eat our candy.
Is your candy all natural?
Our caramel popcorn is made with air popped popcorn—a whole grain—and other all natural ingredients. No preservatives or artificial flavorings or colorings are used. Most of our taffy is all natural. We use all natural oils and extracts whenever possible. Chocolate taffy is flavored with real chocolate, molasses if flavored with molasses, and peppermint is made with real peppermint oil. Once exception is strawberry—there is no such thing as strawberry oil, so we use an artificial flavor in this case. Dolle's is proud to use only the finest, freshest, and most wholesome ingredients in all of our products.
How many pieces of taffy are in one pound?
Because all of Dolle's products are priced and sold according to their weight, there is no exact answer to this question. However, to provide an estimate, there tends to be approximately 65-75 taffy kisses in one pound, and 30-40 taffy sticks in one pound. Please note that this is simply and approximation, not a guarantee, and the exact number of pieces will vary slightly according directly to the product weight.

It only takes a few moments, and the only information the cashier will need is your telephone number to link it to your card; this way, if you are ever shopping in-store and your card is not in hand for any reason, you can still earn points for that transaction by providing your phone number.

Dolle's Quality Customer Candy Card is very easy to use. Just keep it in your wallet, and give it to the cashier every time you make an in-store purchase. Be sure to ask the cashier to link your card to your telephone number when you sign up, so that you can still earn points for your purchase by entering your phone number, even when your card is not in hand. When shopping online, make sure to enter the unique 19 digit number on the back of your Quality Customer Candy Card during checkout to get points for your purchase.
